Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Structural Designer to join our team at Sargent & Lundy. As a key member of our structural design team, you will be responsible for designing and developing structural physical layout drawings in a 3D model, working closely with multi-disciplined engineering and design project teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop structural physical layout drawings in a 3D model, utilizing 3D modeling software tools.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve a wide variety of structural design issues, including the design of structural supports and foundations.
  • Coordinate and provide guidance to other designers and project team members to ensure a complete and timely design.
  • Act as the structural design team lead in the coordination of detailed design phases for all aspects of an integrated structural design model.
  • Participate in the development of less experienced drafters and designers, providing guidance and mentorship as needed.
Requirements
  • A foundational undergraduate program in a technical area, including drafting, or a high school diploma and 1 or more years of drafting coursework or equivalent technical experience.
  • Fifteen (15) or more years of detailed design experience in the development of structural steel design and reinforced concrete design drawings.
  • Proficiency with design software tools, including 3D plant layout models.
  • Experience in the review of structural layout drawings involving steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment and piping supports, foundations, and rebar detailing.
  • Ability to interface with engineering and design teams of other disciplines in the power plant design process.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
  • Associates Degree in Computer Aided Design.
  • Experience using AutoCad and Microstation software.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.
