Position Overview
Reporting to the Manager of Environment and Permitting, the Senior Water Management Consultant will collaborate with environmental and engineering professionals at both the Calgary office and the Ekati site. The primary focus of this role is to lead water management planning and execution at the Ekati Diamond Mine.
The successful candidate will work a standard Monday to Friday schedule at the Yellowknife Office, with occasional travel to the Ekati mine site and Indigenous communities as required by business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee Life-of-Mine and mid-range water management strategies, including underground and open pit dewatering, lake/pond water transfers, and mine water discharge.
- Direct the development, maintenance, and updates of water balance and water quality models.
- Manage the upkeep of water balance and quality databases.
- Lead the formulation and revision of water management plans and procedures.
- Supervise water management consultants in surface water and groundwater model development and reporting.
- Identify and mitigate water management risks while communicating effectively with stakeholders.
- Engage in permitting processes and stakeholder engagement related to water management.
- Contribute to water management considerations during mine planning processes.
- Provide training and mentorship to staff on water management principles and practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in geoscience or engineering with a focus on water management.
- A Master's degree and relevant professional designation are advantageous.
- Over 10 years of progressive technical experience in mine water management and planning.
- Proficient in water management modeling and database management software.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the consulting or mining sectors, particularly in northern Canada.
The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and the ability to prioritize competing demands while managing a diverse range of activities effectively. They will work independently on projects from inception to completion and collaborate respectfully with internal teams and external partners.
