Job OverviewThe Advisor, Water Management will play a critical role in performing water management planning and execution at the Ekati Diamond Mine. Reporting to the Manager, Environment and Permitting, this position will work closely with other environment and engineering professionals at both the Calgary office and Ekati site.
The successful candidate will be required to work a Monday to Friday schedule at the Yellowknife Office in Northwest Territories, with occasional travel to the Ekati mine site, Indigenous communities, and general travel as dictated by business needs.
Key Responsibilities- Lead Life-of-Mine and mid-range water management planning, including underground working and open pit dewatering, lake/pond water transfer, and mine water discharge.
- Develop and maintain water balance and quality models, ensuring accurate and reliable data for informed decision-making.
- Manage and direct water balance and quality databases, ensuring up-to-date information and effective data management.
- Develop and maintain water management plans and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Lead water management risk identification and mitigation, communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate in water management-related permitting proceedings and stakeholder engagement events.
- Provide water management inputs during Life-of-Mine and mid/short-range mine planning processes.
- Provide training and guidance to other staff on water management principles and plans.
- Bachelor's degree in geoscience or engineering with a focus on water management.
- Master's degree and relevant professional designation considered an asset.
- 10+ years of progressive technical experience in mine water management and planning.
- Working knowledge of water management/modelling and database management software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Preference given to candidates with experience working in the consulting or mining industry, and in northern Canada.
