The Toronto District School Board is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Caretaking Team Leader to join our team. As a key member of our Facilities Management department, you will be responsible for supervising the delivery of caretaking and maintenance services to our schools and facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction to caretaking and maintenance staff to ensure schools and centres are safe, clean, and well-maintained.
  • Ensure plant equipment is free from interruptions and unscheduled downtime.
  • Maintain community partnerships and liaise with students, parents, staff, and the community to ensure seamless services.
  • Work closely with other team leaders and Plant Operations & Community Use staff to ensure timely and cost-effective services.

Summary of Duties:

  • Supervise caretaking and maintenance staff on day and/or afternoon shifts.
  • Provide leadership, motivation, and team building to improve productivity.
  • Participate in professional development programs for staff and facilitate their growth.
  • Participate in interviews and make recommendations for hiring staff.
  • Prepare performance reviews and evaluations, provide solutions to enhance performance, and determine disciplinary action where necessary.
  • Respond to and resolve labour relations-related issues in accordance with collective agreement provisions, policies, and procedures.
  • Establish client requirements through meetings with Facility Team Leaders, principals, and caretaking staff.
  • Participate in school leadership teams to proactively address issues related to Plant Operations.
  • Liaise with caretaking and maintenance staff to ensure facilities are clean, safe, and well-maintained.
  • Administer the acquisition, distribution, and use of resources.
  • Report on conditions, activities, and problems to regional management and respond to emergency situations.
  • Monitor building service contracts to ensure maximum effectiveness and adherence to specifications.
  • Conduct site visits to evaluate effectiveness of operations and inspect work to ensure outcomes meet objectives.
  • Ensure work processes are documented and followed, and work outcomes meet stated objectives.
  • Develop and implement standards for continuous improvement and quality initiatives in service delivery.
  • Promote continuous improvement in service delivery processes.
  • Make recommendations for improvements to plant equipment and systems.
  • Respond to inquiries from within and outside the TDSB, including questions and concerns raised by the community.
  • Conduct effective meetings, establish networks for information-sharing, and prepare reports to various stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and recommend purchases of new equipment.
  • Promote safe work practices to ensure the health and safety of staff and students, in accordance with applicable legislation.
  • Participate on various Plant Operations and Board-wide committees.
  • Provide leadership in fostering equity and inclusiveness in the development and implementation of programs and services.
  • Act as back-up in the absence of the Facility Team Leader.
