About the Role

The University of Toronto Scarborough is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Service Worker Caretaking to join our team. As a Service Worker Caretaking, you will play a critical role in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our campus facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Clean and dust furniture, floors, hallways, stairways, and ledges using authorized and appropriate materials and equipment.
  2. Recondition floors as required, including stripping, refinishing, scrubbing, spray buffing, buffing, sealing, and other related floor care duties.
  3. Clean washrooms, including sinks, walls, and partitions, toilets, urinals, mirrors, floors, metal fixtures, plumbing fixtures, and faucets.
  4. Collect litter from floors and waste/compost from receptacles, emptying into janitor carts, removing garbage/recycling from buildings, and depositing into waste bins or compactors.
  5. Clean carpets as required and remove spots/stains from surfaces as needed.
  6. Wash windows and walls, including partition glass.
  7. Move and reset furniture when necessary to complete work.
  8. Make beds for residence guests in residence operations when necessary.
  9. Lean blackboards, whiteboards, and other writing surfaces as directed and replenish supplies as required.
  10. Replenish paper towels, toilet paper, hand soap, and sanitizers to receptacles within washrooms and utility kitchens and other areas as required.
  11. Change light bulbs and clean fixtures as required.
  12. Clear exterior entrance ways of buildings of debris and garbage.
  13. Clean exterior entrance pads and podiums using power washing equipment.
  14. Assist in snow removal when necessary.
  15. May periodically assist with set-ups for special events and exams.
  16. Clean escalators and elevator interior and exterior.
  17. Lock and unlock doors as directed.

Requirements

Completion of tenth grade or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. One year of related work experience is desirable. The successful candidate will possess the physical ability to perform duties described and to use indicated equipment. Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written) is also required.

Working Conditions

The hours of work for this position are Sunday to Thursday, 10:30 pm - 7:00 am. A copy of the full job description is available upon request from the UTSC HR Office.
