POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Recreation Manager or their delegate, the Activity Aide plays a crucial role in the design, execution, and assessment of recreational programs tailored to address the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and cultural needs of residents and tenants.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Implementing established recreational activities such as outings, exercise sessions, crafts, social gatherings, entertainment, and games.
  • Assisting residents in attending programs as necessary.
  • Encouraging and motivating residents/tenants to engage in activities while providing personal care during these events.
  • Monitoring, reporting, and documenting any changes in residents' conditions to the supervisor or nursing staff.
  • Ensuring that recreational equipment and supplies are utilized, maintained, and stored safely and efficiently, reporting any unsafe or malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor.
  • Actively participating in Continuous Quality Improvement (C.Q.I.) initiatives, meetings, committees, and educational training as required, and assisting in maintaining statistical records.
  • Supporting the orientation process for new residents/tenants.
  • Providing guidance and support to volunteers and assisting in their evaluation.
  • Performing additional duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a recognized Activity/Recreation Certificate or diploma program.
  • Experience in a recreation department focused on seniors is an asset.
  • Current Basic First Aid Certification.
  • Current Food Safe Course or equivalent certification.
  • A valid Class 4 (Unrestricted) BC Driver's License is required.
  • All successful candidates must pass a vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check in accordance with provincial guidelines.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English, with the ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
