Recreation Program Coordinator

The Recreation Programmer reports to the Therapeutic Recreation Manager/Recreation Manager or designate. This role supports the implementation and evaluation of activity programs to meet the holistic needs and interests of persons served, while maintaining the rights of residents and ensuring they are treated with respect and dignity.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain professional relationships that support and strengthen the organizational culture and purpose.
- Promote, publicize, and carry out established recreation programs such as outings, exercises, crafts, social events, entertainment, and games.
- Assist residents and provide portering to and from programs as required.
- Observe, document, and report any changes in residents to the supervisor and/or nurse.
- Maintain a safe environment for residents, family, and staff, through accident prevention, knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations, the safe use of supplies and equipment, and reporting when repairs are necessary.
- Maintain appropriate documentation as per policy and procedures, confidentiality, and security.
- Actively participate in orientation of new staff, community programs, meetings, committees, and educational in-services.
- Assist in the maintenance of statistical records using programs such as Activity Pro, Point Click Care, etc.
- Assist with orientation of new residents and encourage residents to participate or volunteer in their own community.
- Provide guidance, assistance, and support to volunteers. Assist in the evaluation of volunteers.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Grade 12 Education
- Graduate from a recognized Activity/Recreation Certificate program.
- Previous experience in a senior's focused environment an asset.
- Dementia course an asset.
- Valid First Aid Level 1 Certificate.
- Serving It Right Certificate.
- Food Safe Level 1 Certificate an asset.
- Valid Class 4 (Unrestricted) BC Driver's License.
- All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
- Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work with cleaners, detergents, and other cleaning equipment.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
- Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
