GFL Environmental is a leading waste management company seeking a skilled Maintenance Manager to oversee the daily operations of our Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Winnipeg, MB.
Job Summary
The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for the management of employees engaged in the maintenance, repair, and servicing of heavy-duty equipment, support equipment, and mechanical infrastructure owned and operated by GFL Environmental.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement effective maintenance strategies to ensure equipment availability and minimize downtime.
- Oversee the preventative maintenance program, annual inspections, and cost control measures to meet budget targets.
- Manage and develop personnel within the department, including technicians, to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties.
- Work closely with the operational team to ensure equipment needs are met and that maintenance standards are met.
- Identify and develop plans to improve department procedures to maximize asset availability.
- Ensure employees comply with health and safety programs and monitor equipment utilization to ensure adequate spare ratios and technician ratios.
- Develop and manage the budget for maintenance and replacement of equipment.
- Complete weekly reports for management, including budgeting and meeting due dates of reporting.
- Establish equipment management best practices to improve cost control.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience related to the heavy equipment industry, with a licensed journeyman ticket in heavy equipment or millwright preferred but not required.
- Minimum 3+ years supervisory and people management experience with significant hands-on experience in leading maintenance teams.
- Demonstrated ability to create a culture of accountability and cross-departmental teamwork.
- Excellent communication skills, management of priorities, and good organizational skills.
- Ability to deal with all levels of management.
- Tactfully dispense direct and actionable feedback; is open and direct with others.
- Ability to perform under pressure and in a fast-paced and rewarding environment.
Working Conditions
The Maintenance Manager must be able to work inside and/or outside in all different weather conditions, including extreme cold and extreme heat. Work locations could vary from office to boardroom to shop floor.
Physical Demands
Physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
- Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, grasping/gripping, and pushing/pulling.
- Work utilizing personal protective equipment, including hearing protection, safety-toed boot, utility gloves, reflective vest, hearing and eye protection, hard hat, etc.
- Work outside and inside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts.
- Physically able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, and push/pull up to 100 pounds.
