Senior Upstream Process Scientist

We are in search of a dedicated Senior Upstream Process Scientist to join our Manufacturing, Science & Technology division. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in establishing and operationalizing a 200L scale pilot manufacturing facility aimed at producing materials for CMC development, ensuring the provision of high-quality representative materials for regulatory submissions that facilitate GLP toxicology studies. Additionally, you will contribute significantly to technology transfer and scaling processes to ensure successful antibody production from laboratory to manufacturing scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate single-use bioreactors and mixers to produce therapeutic antibodies, bispecifics, and other biologics at scales up to 200L.
- Collaborate closely with process development, manufacturing, and other departments within Technical Operations to establish process parameters, scale-up methodologies, and best practices for 200L scale production.
- Draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), technical documentation, batch records, and technology transfer materials.
- Employ a scientific approach to evaluate and test new technologies aimed at reducing production costs and optimizing process development and manufacturing.
- Assist in facility readiness and start-up activities, along with batch readiness and operational support.
- Work in partnership with stakeholders to facilitate technology transfers and scale-up to GMP manufacturing.
- Promote and uphold high safety standards within the pilot plant environment.
- Analyze and interpret data to support informed scientific decision-making.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years of industry experience in process development, manufacturing, and MSAT.
- A bachelor's degree in biotechnology, chemical/biochemical engineering, or a related life-science field.
- Practical experience in mammalian cell culture and bioreactor operations, along with familiarity with single-use technologies.
- Proficiency in cell culture metrics, including agitation, viable cell density, metabolite consumption rates, pH, dissolved oxygen, and media/feed composition and strategy.
- Experience in scale-up processes, technology transfer, batch documentation, data analysis, and data management.
- Proven track record in batch production.
- Strong capabilities in cell culture and upstream processing, with hands-on experience in operating bioreactors and utilizing single-use technologies.
- Experience in mammalian cell culture, growth media preparation, scale-up, and upstream operations to support robust processes for the expression of recombinant monoclonal and bispecific antibodies at scales up to 200L.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment with a high level of urgency and shifting priorities, applying pragmatic, risk-based decision-making to process development and manufacturing.
