Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Aide to join our team at BC Children's Hospital. As a Patient Care Aide, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care to our patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients/clients/families and provide support following established care plans.
  • Assist in the delivery of nursing care under the functional direction of a Registered Nurse and perform duties such as recording of vital signs, administering dressings, and assisting with personal hygiene.
  • Respond to call bells/alarms by alerting the appropriate healthcare team member and/or assisting as necessary.
  • Observe and monitor patient/client progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes and report significant observations to the Registered Nurse or designate.
  • Utilize mechanical aides to transport clients and provide assistance with positioning, lifting, and/or transferring clients.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment and ensure that all equipment is properly cleaned and stored.
  • Prepare room for discharge cleaning and/or assist in room setup.
  • Participate in team discussions and/or related training sessions and attend meetings to provide/receive information.
  • Perform related clerical duties such as answering telephones and maintaining patient flow.

Requirements

  • Grade 10 plus graduation from a recognized Nursing Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Registration with the BC Care Aide Registry.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize work and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents.
