Patient Care Aide, Medical Inpatient Specialist

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Aide to join our team at BC Children's Hospital. As a Patient Care Aide, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care to our patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients/clients/families and provide support following established care plans.
- Assist in the delivery of nursing care under the functional direction of a Registered Nurse and perform duties such as recording of vital signs, administering dressings, and assisting with personal hygiene.
- Respond to call bells/alarms by alerting the appropriate healthcare team member and/or assisting as necessary.
- Observe and monitor patient/client progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes and report significant observations to the Registered Nurse or designate.
- Utilize mechanical aides to transport clients and provide assistance with positioning, lifting, and/or transferring clients.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment and ensure that all equipment is properly cleaned and stored.
- Prepare room for discharge cleaning and/or assist in room setup.
- Participate in team discussions and/or related training sessions and attend meetings to provide/receive information.
- Perform related clerical duties such as answering telephones and maintaining patient flow.
Requirements
- Grade 10 plus graduation from a recognized Nursing Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Registration with the BC Care Aide Registry.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to organize work and prioritize workload.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents.
