About the Role:
The Dean of Student Experience and Wellbeing serves as the principal student affairs officer for the campus and is a vital member of the Principal's senior executive team. This role involves close collaboration with other administrators and academic leaders to integrate student affairs leadership into the strategic planning and direction for the University of Toronto Scarborough.
The Dean is responsible for coordinating and working strategically with senior administration across various departments on campus. This position is pivotal in the planning and development of student services, emphasizing wellness education and fostering supportive environments for student mental health and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the student affairs and services strategy in alignment with the campus Strategic Plan.
- Foster relationships with student governments, clubs, and associations, providing guidance and support.
- Establish partnerships with other University departments and external organizations to create programs that address the diverse needs of students.
- Collaborate with academic portfolios to enhance student recruitment, retention, and success initiatives.
- Serve as a senior assessor and member of relevant campus governance bodies, bringing forth recommendations for approval.
- Oversee the execution of policies and programs that support student mental health and academic needs.
- Advise senior leadership on non-academic policies affecting students and manage related issues.
- Act as a spokesperson for the University on matters related to non-academic policies and campus organizations.
- Develop financial strategies and budgets for the Office of Student Experience & Wellbeing.
- Contribute to the Executive Committee in developing and implementing UTSC's vision and strategic priorities.
Qualifications:
- A post-graduate degree in a relevant field or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of 10 years of senior management experience in student services or affairs within a post-secondary educational setting.
- Experience managing complex developmental issues of a diverse young adult population.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Exceptional leadership, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal and change management abilities.
- Proficient in budget analysis and strategic planning.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
This role is essential in enhancing the quality of the student experience at the post-secondary level and requires a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive campus environment.
