Sterile Processing Specialist

Required Qualifications and Experience:
High school graduate or equivalent. Certification as a Central Sterile Supply Technician or equivalent. One year of experience in a related field. CPR certification.
Key Responsibilities:
The Working Environment:
Demonstrates ability to follow safety standards according to established guidelines such as OSHA, ANSI, and AAAMI. Reports pertinent observations regarding accidents and unsafe environmental conditions. Adheres to policies of infection control program by following proper personal hygiene and hand washing procedures. Adheres to contaminated and isolation procedures. Uses standard precautions for infection control when handling contaminated instruments.
Instrument Care:
Accelerates turnover of cases by following progress of schedule and assisting to remove dirty instruments from rooms if needed. Inspects instruments for defective parts or malfunction. Responsible for sending for repair and keeping record in Log Book. Cleans and lubricates instruments according to special needs.
Assembly and Packaging:
Assembles instruments into sets. Packages instruments according to size and organization. Labels instruments correctly. Sterilizes instruments using proper method. Stores instruments properly.
Sterilization Methods and Standards:
High Pressure Steam Sterilizer and sterilization for immediate use. Understands procedure for operating sterilizer. Loads instruments in accepted manner. Selects proper dial setting.
Equipment Maintenance:
Checks indicators for proper functioning. Keeps sterilizer clean and polished. Reports malfunction to Director/Manager or designee immediately.
