Position: Instructor in Marine Engineering
The Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University is recognized as a leading institution in marine education, training, and applied research, dedicated to supporting the oceans industries. The School of Maritime Studies offers a diverse range of educational programs, including technology diplomas and technical certificates, focusing on various aspects of the marine transportation sector.
We are currently looking for qualified faculty members to contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of our programs, which encompass both traditional classroom settings and online learning environments.
The selected candidate will be responsible for providing instruction in the Diploma of Marine Engineering Technology and other relevant certification programs. Specific duties include:
- Creating and updating course materials and curricula as part of the program evaluation process;
- Collaborating with fellow instructors during program assessments;
- Assessing student performance and offering constructive feedback;
- Engaging with industry stakeholders to ensure program relevance;
- Guiding students in exploring work placement opportunities and career paths;
- Contributing to the development of new and existing course curricula;
- Undertaking additional related responsibilities as necessary.
The successful candidate will also participate in the design and delivery of an expanding array of online courses through the University's Learning Management System.
QualificationsApplicants should possess extensive experience (minimum of 10 years) in the marine transportation field, hold a Transport Canada Certificate of Competency at the First-Class Engineer level, and have an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Alternatively, a combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Additional expertise in shipboard electrical systems and high voltage operations is advantageous. Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level is also preferred.
Compensation: Salary will be determined in accordance with the Marine Institute Instructors' Collective Agreement.
