Job Opportunity at Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch

We are seeking a qualified Teacher of the Deaf to join our team at Ernest C. Drury School for the Deaf – Secondary program in Milton. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Deaf students in academic programs and programs for students with multiple exceptionalities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and modify lesson plans to effectively teach Deaf students
  • Create Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to meet the needs of Deaf students
  • Manage a classroom and students using various behavioral management strategies
  • Apply knowledge of bilingual-biliteracy-bicultural education for Deaf students
  • Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to support students with multiple exceptionalities
Requirements:
  • Valid Certificate of Registration and Qualifications from the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Deaf Specialist/Teaching Students Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing qualification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Intermediate/Senior Division qualifications required
  • Special Education Qualifications required (minimum Spec Ed Part 1) or in the process of obtaining
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) preferred
