Job Title: Power Engineer

Kap Paper Inc. is seeking a skilled Power Engineer to join our team in Kapuskasing, ON. As a Power Engineer, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of our steam and effluent plant.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform testing on all boilers and condensate systems.
  • Assist with the operation of gas boilers.
  • Adjust chemical feed rates to maintain residuals.
  • Visually inspect equipment under your care, including fans, stokers, grates, dampers, valves, and controllers.
  • Blow down water columns and gauge glasses.
  • Monitor softeners for hardness and regenerate softeners as needed.
  • Mix and maintain caustic tank and feed rates.
  • Assist during plug-ups on wood waste systems.
  • Assist the Biomass Operator on the loader as needed.
  • Change charts and perform data entry in the computer.
  • Record any operational problems in the Operation logs.
  • Change various filters around the plant, including precipitators, degasifiers, and MCC rooms.
  • Assist with lockouts.
  • Assist with chemical unloading.
  • Check and start up air compressors as required.
  • Perform duties as assigned by the Shift Engineer as needed.
  • Take steps to ensure boilers stay operating in case of a critical equipment failure.
Requirements:
  • Education/Certification: Minimum Ontario Third Class (TSSA) Power Engineering License or better.
  • Experience with operating boiler equipment via DCS and their auxiliaries is an asset.
  • Willingness to learn in a fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Participation in the current training matrix for progression toward the next highest Power Engineering license.
  • Good level of maturity, interpersonal, and communication skills.
