Your Role:

As a vital member of the Impact and Verification team, the Energy Modelling Specialist is responsible for assessing the energy performance of proposed initiatives and capital projects. This includes verifying and supporting the performance of these projects after construction. The Specialist will lead efforts to enhance the capacity within both GMF and the broader municipal sectors to create, validate, and verify energy models and engineering savings calculations, ensuring the development of high-performance buildings across Canadian municipalities.

Primary Duties:

Lead the Impact and Verification team in supporting the Direct Funding unit of GMF: Conduct energy modelling and analysis of funding proposals for both new and existing structures to validate and verify the expected and actual energy performance of GMF initiatives. Responsibilities include:

  • Assessing energy savings projections based on project specifications.
  • Executing detailed building energy modelling using various software tools (e.g., HOT2000, eQuest/CAN-Quest, EnergyPlus).
  • Reviewing and interpreting architectural and engineering design documents.
  • Evaluating energy models according to established guidelines and standards.
  • Analyzing engineering assumptions and calculations to support energy efficiency assessments.
  • Conducting iterative modelling to evaluate different energy measures.
  • Collaborating with the Direct Funding unit to provide innovative recommendations for enhancing building energy efficiency.
  • Leading project reporting and assessment verifications, improving processes as necessary.

Enhance capacity within GMF and the municipal sectors for high-performance building design: Responsibilities include:

  • Continuously refining GMF's methodologies for validating building energy models across varying complexities.
  • Implementing automated data tracking and reporting tools to enhance project management.
  • Supporting the validation of GMF studies to promote best practices in energy modelling.
  • Partnering with Outreach Advisors to guide clients in evaluating energy performance.
  • Designing training materials and courses on energy modelling and efficiency calculations.
  • Providing mentorship and technical support to GMF staff.
  • Recommending industry best practices for energy modelling to clients.
  • Staying informed about innovations in energy modelling and engineering calculations.
Your Qualifications:

You possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, building sciences, or a related field, with a strong foundation in energy transfer within building systems.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in building performance analysis and energy modelling.
  • Knowledge of Building Sciences, Lighting, Electrical systems, and Renewable Energy.
  • Experience with energy audits and designing HVAC systems.
  • Familiarity with multi-unit residential buildings is advantageous.
  • Understanding of mechanical systems and architectural drawings.
  • Certifications such as ASHRAE's Building Energy Modelling Professional or similar are considered an asset.
  • Technical knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
  • Experience in sectors like sustainable transportation is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to present data effectively.
  • Proficiency in both official languages is an asset.
