About the Role

Morrison Hershfield, a leading consulting engineering firm, is seeking a skilled Mechanical Designer to join our team in Toronto. As a Mechanical Designer, you will play a crucial role in assisting our clients in all phases of the design process, from functional planning and conceptual layout through to detailed design and construction support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical engineering work related to vertical infrastructure, specifically in the areas of mechanical systems, i.e. HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection.

  • Prepare contract drawings and specifications in conjunction with the project team for delivery to clients.

  • Document study progress/results through the preparation of memos, minutes, and reports as a record of events.

  • Liaise with clients to exchange information regarding project progress.

  • Use Revit to create and maintain building mechanical models, drawings, and schedules.

  • Develop designs that meet client requirements and adhere to a high standard of form, fit, function, appearance, and quality.

  • Identify discrepancies in drawings and information and resolve through appropriate methods and channels.

  • Prepare site visit reports by interpreting findings to give clear recommendations and direction to clients.

  • Review shop drawings and design details by analyzing for continuity and viability.

Requirements

  • Technologist diploma in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.

  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit 3D modeling is an asset.

  • Prior experience in mechanical systems, specifically related to industrial, institutional, and commercial buildings - preferably in the consulting engineering industry is an asset.

  • Strong knowledge of building services, HVAC, plumbing, and drainage, and fire protection.

  • Experience with quality control and production scheduling is preferred.

  • Ability to liaise with clients.

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and conflicting demands on time with a rapidly shifting work load.
