Our operations in Newfoundland and Labrador encompass an integrated mining, milling, and processing facility. Nickel concentrate from the remote Voisey's Bay operation is transported to our advanced Long Harbour Processing Plant, where it is refined into low-carbon, high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds, and copper cathodes.

The Role

We are seeking an Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Maintenance Superintendent to become a vital part of our team. This permanent role operates on a 4x10 schedule at our site.

The E&I Maintenance Superintendent will oversee the Electrical & Instrumentation maintenance operations at the Long Harbour facility. This position will lead a team of supervisors and their crews, including Electricians and Instrumentation Technicians.

In this role, you will:

  1. Promote and ensure Safe Production practices among team members while minimizing risks to the lowest possible level. Provide coaching and mentorship to supervisors and teams through visible leadership and personal safety plan implementation. Take decisive action to rectify noncompliance issues when necessary.
  2. Coordinate Electrical and Instrumentation tasks for the facility through the Vale Asset Management Framework, employing work management principles and collaborating with Reliability and Maintenance Planning, Scheduling, and Material Coordination personnel.
  3. Track key performance indicators (KPIs) to engage the team in improvement initiatives and assess the effectiveness of a structured maintenance organization.
  4. Maintain regular communication with work management personnel to ensure that equipment data, spare parts requirements, and preventive maintenance procedures are updated as needed based on plant process changes and feedback from field personnel.
  5. Provide input on budgetary needs for your area of responsibility to the Maintenance Manager.
  6. Participate in planned outage scheduling and lead the execution of activities for your area, working closely with the Operations group to align maintenance schedules with production needs.
  7. Contribute to the development and monitoring of Career & Succession Plans for yourself and your direct reports.
  8. Champion the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives and adapt the team to the Vale Production System (VPS).

Your Profile

Education:

  1. Red Seal certification in a relevant maintenance trade, or a post-secondary degree in Engineering or a diploma in engineering technology.
  2. Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation is an asset.

Experience:

  1. At least 8 years of experience in maintenance and/or supervisory roles.
  2. Experience in Electrical and/or Instrumentation disciplines is preferred.
  3. Experience in planning and/or scheduling, or work management is considered an asset.
  4. Familiarity with CMMS systems (SAP preferred).

Skills:

  1. Demonstrated leadership abilities.
  2. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Teams.
  3. Knowledgeable in report creation and reporting tools.
  4. Strong mentoring and coaching capabilities.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonal skills.
  6. Understanding of the Safe Production model for risk and hazard management.
