**Our Team**
Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey’s Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.
**The Opportunity**
We are currently seeking an **Emergency Response Superintendent **to join our **Health and Safety Department **in **Long Harbour, NL. **This **permanent** position will either be on a **4x10s or 5x8s schedule** **working at the Long Harbour Operations site.**
The Emergency Response Superintendent is responsible for the development, implementation, and continual improvement of the emergency response plan at the Long Harbour Operations site.
This plan is currently undergoing significant change and improvement as the site strives to meet a Responsible Care standard set by the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada, along with internal Vale standards. Several new response scenarios will need to be developed. As improvements are made to the site’s emergency preparedness plans, the Emergency Response Superintendent will use the management of change process to detail the changes needed to equipment, training and emergency drill schedules. The Emergency Response Superintendent will serve as the key link between the Emergency Response Team and the Crisis Management Team and ensure both teams have coordinated drills and training including internal and external stakeholders. They will be responsible for the supervision of the Emergency Response Team Leads who are accountable for the day-to-day routines, inspections, training, response to emergency calls and incident command. They will also be responsible for the acquisition, and maintenance of emergency response equipment and assets to ensure that all resources are in place for the protection of people, property, and the environment at the Long Harbour Operations site. The incumbent will also engage with stakeholders including communities and regulators on emergency response preparedness.
Additionally, in this position, you will:
- Develop, implement, maintain, and continually improve the site Emergency Response Plan.
- Support the site leadership team on implementing, maintaining and continuously improving the Crisis Management Plan.
- Communicate about emergency preparedness to a wide range of stakeholders, internally and externally and represent VNL in various forums.
- Responsible for recruitment and supervision of the Long Harbour Operations Emergency Response Team.
- Develop and maintain a multi-year drill response plan comprised of tabletop and live exercises for all risk scenarios present at the Long Harbour Operations site.
- Test effectiveness of emergency response critical controls annually as control owner, identifying opportunity for improvements that support overall risk reduction.
- Work with the Provincial and Federal agencies to ensure all required programs and systems are in place, complete an alignment exercise with the agencies to ensure the appropriate response and recovery plans and infrastructure are in place.
- Maintain mutual aid relationships for external emergency response as necessary.
- Identify the infrastructure needs for all necessary equipment and programs in place.
- Develop and maintain an annual budget for all materials and services needed to support the site Emergency Response Plan.
**About You**
**Education**:
- Post-secondary education in Occupational, Health & Safety, Process Safety, or related technical discipline is required.
- Class 5 or equivalent driver's license is required.
- NFPA Firefighter Level I and II is required.
- 2 yr. College Diploma in a re
- 1021 Fire Officer or NFPA is an asset.
- Degree in Emergency Management or related field is an asset.
- Pump Operations, Hydraulics, Driver/Operator Airbrake endorsement.
- AMFR (Advanced Medical First Aid).
- NFPA 1081, Industrial Firefighter
- NFPA 472, Hazardous Materials - min. of Operations.
- NFPA 1006, Certified Rescue Technician.
- NFPA Fire Instructor Level 1.
- NFPA Vehicle Rescue.
