Role Overview

The Activity Coordinator will report to the Therapeutic Recreation Manager or designated supervisor. This role is essential in facilitating and assessing activity programs tailored to the holistic needs and interests of our residents, while upholding their rights and ensuring they are treated with dignity.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating effectively as a team player, fostering professional relationships that enhance the organizational culture.
  • Promoting and executing established recreational programs, including outings, exercise sessions, crafts, social gatherings, entertainment, and games.
  • Assisting residents with transportation to and from activities as needed.
  • Observing, documenting, and reporting any changes in residents' conditions to the supervisor or nursing staff.
  • Ensuring a safe environment for residents, families, and staff through:
    • Accident prevention measures,
    • Knowledge of emergency protocols,
    • Safe handling of supplies and equipment, and
    • Adherence to infection control procedures.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation in accordance with policies, ensuring confidentiality and security.
  • Actively participating in the orientation of new staff, community programs, meetings, and educational in-services.
  • Assisting in the maintenance of statistical records using relevant software.
  • Supporting the orientation of new residents and encouraging their involvement in community activities.
  • Providing guidance and support to volunteers, including evaluating their contributions.
  • Performing additional related duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Completion of Grade 12 education.
  • Graduation from a recognized Activity/Recreation Certificate program.
  • Previous experience in a senior-focused environment is an asset.
  • Completion of a dementia care course is advantageous.
  • Valid First Aid Level 1 Certification.
  • Serving It Right Certification.
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certification is a plus.
  • Valid Class 4 (Unrestricted) BC Driver's License is required.
  • Successful candidates must pass a vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check as per provincial guidelines.
  • Physical ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs, and to work with cleaning agents and equipment.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English, with the ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
