About the Role

Hydro One Networks Inc is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Indigenous Relations / Business Development leader to join our team. As a key member of our Indigenous Relations team, you will play a critical role in advancing our action-based approach to reconciliation and building positive relationships with Indigenous communities.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and Execute Strategies: Manage the development and execution of strategies to advance corporately stated goals and establish positive relationships with Indigenous communities, their elected officials, and governing bodies.
  2. Provide Strategic Advice: Provide strategic advice and operational guidance to Hydro One's Lines of Business to ensure their work programs and standards reflect the spirit and intent of the principles and objectives of the Indigenous Relations policy.
  3. Devise and Implement Key Strategies: Devise and implement key Indigenous community and government relations strategies and programs to advance Hydro One's corporate goals and interests in a manner that demonstrates mutual respect.
  4. Develop Corporate Policies: Develop corporate policies and procedures that reflect the objectives of Indigenous Relations policy.
  5. Provide Strategic Advice to Senior Management: Provide strategic advice and counsel, make recommendations, including making relevant presentations, to senior management on strategies and programs critical to Hydro One's success in Indigenous relations.
  6. Travel and Establish Relationships: Travel to Indigenous communities across Ontario, establishing and maintaining strategic relationships with elected officials.
  7. Manage Sensitive Issues: Manage sensitive issues involving Indigenous communities and their citizens.
  8. Establish Consultation Plans: Establish and implement consultation plans necessary to influence and secure regulatory and government approvals for major projects.
  9. Lead Key Initiatives: Lead the implementation of key initiatives to increase Indigenous satisfaction and enhance Hydro One's image across all Indigenous communities.
  10. Manage Project Budgets: Manage project budgets and maximize the impact of each dollar.
  11. Manage and Supervise Staff: Manage and supervise staff and contractors engaged in the delivery of Indigenous relations programs and projects.
Selection Criteria
  1. 5+ years of progressively senior work experience in Indigenous relations and engagement.
  2. Experience working in Indigenous communities on major capital projects.
  3. Track record and experience in negotiations will be an asset.
  4. Proven track record in building relationships with Indigenous communities.
  5. Strong strategic planning skills and people leadership experience.
  6. High degree of PC literacy, including MS Office applications.
  7. Bachelor's Degree (4 year college or university).
