Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Education or equivalent, specializing in Secondary Education with coursework and/or experience in Special Education;
- Experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary School Based Teams to assist classroom educators in identifying and addressing the needs of students with diverse learning profiles;
- Proven track record of fostering student potential in inclusive and specialized educational settings;
- Familiarity with and experience in implementing differentiated instructional strategies is advantageous;
- Experience teaching in multi-grade environments is beneficial;
- Experience incorporating self-regulation and social-emotional learning practices within the classroom is a plus;
- Experience engaging with Indigenous students in a culturally rich community is valued.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability
- Ability to collaborate effectively and build authentic relationships with the local First Nations community, including Elders, families, and students, to enhance community engagement in educational initiatives;
- Willingness to learn about and integrate local First Nation culture and perspectives, as well as the Southern Tutchone language, into the educational environment;
- Commitment to being an active and trusted member of the local community;
- Strong skills in classroom management, planning, and organization, with the ability to inspire and motivate students;
- Solid understanding of inclusive education philosophies, along with excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills when working with parents, colleagues, and community partners;
- Demonstrated capability in applying restorative practices and developmentally appropriate approaches to support student learning;
- Proven ability to design, implement, and evaluate project-based learning initiatives that align with curriculum objectives;
- Strong knowledge and experience in delivering on-the-land educational programs;
- Proven ability to create, support, and execute Student Learning Plans, Behaviour Plans, Safety Plans, and Individual Education Plans;
- Effective communication skills with parents and caregivers.
Additional Information
To be eligible for a teaching position in Yukon, candidates must possess Teacher Certification from another Canadian province or territory. Successful candidates will undergo a Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
Relocation assistance may be available.
