Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Educational Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will provide support to students with special needs, work collaboratively with teachers and other staff members, and contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide individualized support to students with special needs, including academic, social, and emotional support
- Assist teachers with lesson planning, implementation, and assessment
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and staff
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of student learning plans
- Maintain accurate records and reports as required
- Grade 12 graduation or equivalent
- Experience working with youth, preferably in an educational setting
- Post-secondary training in Exceptionalities Worker Program, Special Education, Teacher Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Services, or Medical Services is an asset
- Experience integrating self-regulation and social-emotional care practices in the classroom is an asset
- Experience working with Indigenous learners in a culturally diverse community is an asset
- Experience with restorative justice in a classroom setting is an asset
- Experience working with neuro-diverse students is an asset
- Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents
- Willingness to learn Kaska
- Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Good organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments
- Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with parents and caregivers, establishing cooperative and authentic connections to support the best school experience possible
- Security Clearance (Vulnerable Sector Check) prior to starting work
- Standard First Aid Certificate or a willingness to complete within 3 months
- Completion of the Educational Assistant Module by the end of the 2023/24 school year
