In this role, reporting to a Practice Leader in Alberta, the Legal Counsel will manage assigned legal matters related to insurance, representing TD Insurance or its clients in civil litigation involving claims for damages and compensation for personal injury or property damage, with varying complexities.

This position operates under a hybrid work model.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Formulate and refine suitable legal strategies for questioning, investigation, management, and trial of cases.
  2. Engage with TD Insurance analysts and insured clients as necessary.
  3. Conduct required Questionings, applications, trials, and mediations.
  4. Research applicable laws related to cases or matters.
  5. Draft legal documents, pleadings, applications, and legal factums as needed.
  6. Stay updated with legal developments.
Qualifications:
  1. Completion of law school with LLB and admission to the bar in Alberta.
  2. 5+ years of experience as a lawyer, particularly in insurance defense litigation or other litigation, including personal injury or general litigation.
  3. Familiarity with legal and court documents and procedures.
  4. Proficient in standard office equipment and word processing.
  5. Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively.
  7. Competence in editing and proofreading legal documents.
  8. Self-motivated with the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
  9. Strong interpersonal and client service skills, maintaining a professional and positive demeanor.
  10. Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
  11. Creative and conceptual problem-solving abilities.
