Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Occupational Health and Safety Specialist to join our team at UBC. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for our employees and students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement effective occupational health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees on safety procedures and protocols.
  • Manage and investigate workplace incidents and accidents.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain accurate records of safety incidents and compliance.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A college diploma in a relevant field, such as occupational health and safety or a related field.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications

CGA/CMA Level 2 or Payroll CPA Level 1 preferred. High degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Strong English language skills. Advanced Microsoft Office skills (e.g., Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, SharePoint, InfoPath, Nintex, Power BI). Strong computer skills, especially with troubleshooting software compatibility and workflow problems, understanding web browsers and cloud-based software. Strong organizational skills. Able to maintain multiple meeting calendars and multiple email addresses. Strong communication skills, verbally and in writing. Able to think analytically and conceptually. Able to understand complex legislation, policies, regulations, and technical information. Accurate note-taking. Able to resolve problems and make informed decisions. Must be able to take initiative and work independently. Able to multi-task. Able to prioritize work and consistently meet deadlines.
