Job Summary:
The General Maintenance Worker will perform a variety of skilled manual tasks and duties in support of various general maintenance services provided by the Facilities Management Department. This includes installing, repairing, and maintaining building components and equipment, utilizing power and hand tools, on any of the College campuses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and organize service providers and acquire quotes for needed contractors to provide various services to the college.
- Verify college policies regarding contracted work and communicate health and safety procedures to contractors.
- Communicate affected areas within the college to staff and students as required.
- Procure resources and schedule contractor work to accommodate staff and students with minimal disruptions.
- Provide plumbing, mechanical, and electrical maintenance and repairs, as requested, and required to college facilities.
- Perform various duties to maintain college facilities, including carpentry, masonry, painting, and assisting with mechanical and electrical.
Requirements:
- Two-year Certificate of Apprenticeship in General Maintenance or other related field.
- Completion of Locksmithing Courses – The Association of Ontario Locksmiths is required.
- Minimum of five (5) years' practical, related work experience in tasks associated with repair/maintenance of buildings and equipment, in industrial, commercial, or institutional environment.
Skills and Attributes:
- Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and execute own work.
- Must adhere to policies and procedures as set out in various manuals, safety information (WHIMIS), Building Codes, material, and equipment specifications, etc.
- Good judgment and accuracy; attention to detail and safety.
- Ability to stoop, bend and work in tight spaces; ability to lift over 20 kg or 44 lbs.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills at a professional level.
- Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College's priorities on diversity and equity.
