The Nova Scotia SPCA is seeking a dedicated **Animal Care Assistant** to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring the well-being of animals in our care.
Qualifications- Education: Completion of a trades certificate or diploma in a related field.
- Experience: Previous experience ranging from 1 to 7 months in a similar role is preferred.
This position is based in an **animal shelter**, where you will be surrounded by a variety of animals in need of care and attention.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and provide nutritious meals for the animals.
- Maintain cleanliness by disinfecting cages, pens, aquariums, kennels, and other enclosures.
- Assist in the inoculation and treatment processes for animals under care.
- Completion of a **Veterinary Assistant Course** is highly regarded.
- Must demonstrate **attention to detail** and the ability to work in a **physically demanding** environment.
- Ability to perform tasks involving **bending, crouching, and kneeling**.
- Work may be conducted in a **fast-paced environment**, requiring standing for extended periods.
- Ability to handle weights of up to **23 kg (50 lbs)**.
- Strong **client focus** and dependability.
- Excellent **interpersonal skills** and oral communication abilities.
- Flexibility, sound **judgment**, and reliability are essential.
- Must be a **team player**.
This is a **casual position** with varying hours between **3 to 40 hours per week**. The primary language of work is **English**.
