Position Overview:

The Lead Fire Investigation Specialist will collaborate closely with the Practice Lead of the Fire and Electrical Group, providing guidance and support to junior team members. This role involves engaging with clients, conducting thorough examinations, performing testing and analysis, and delivering comprehensive engineering reports in a professional and articulate manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer technical direction within the Group's investigations and projects, including the design and execution of both desk studies and field investigations.
  • Mentor and supervise junior team members during investigation assignments, contributing to their performance assessments and development planning.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients, providing updates throughout the investigative process.
  • Coordinate with local Fire and Police Departments to gather necessary information for investigations.
  • Commit to the firm's Strategic Plan and core values while developing testing and analysis protocols.
  • Engage in business development activities and promote market growth opportunities by attending industry seminars and events.
  • Achieve technical independence for all aspects of investigations, including final sign-off.
  • Conduct site examinations related to incidents of loss or failure.
  • Test the functionality of systems and equipment.
  • Effectively present investigation findings and analyses to clients and stakeholders in various settings.
  • Review engineering plans and specifications to ensure compliance with relevant guidelines and regulations.
  • Assist in the creation of engineering drawings and simulations based on field data and calculations.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports grounded in sound investigative practices.
  • Manage projects according to client-approved scopes, ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery of high-quality reports.
  • Prepare to provide expert testimony in legal proceedings.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of several years of experience in project management, with a focus on investigations related to combustible materials.
  • Current registration with relevant engineering bodies.
  • Certification as a Fire and Explosion Investigator.
  • Additional certifications such as CVFI, CFI, WETT, GPL, or GPI are advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with regulatory codes and standards.
  • Experience in a consulting environment with a strong foundation in engineering problem-solving.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
  • Exceptional technical writing abilities.
  • Strong communication skills for effective client interaction.
