We are currently seeking a skilled Accounting Manager to oversee financial operations for a prominent non-profit organization committed to enhancing the quality of life for its community members.

Position Overview:
The Accounting Manager will report directly to the Executive Director and will be supported by a dedicated team. This role is crucial in ensuring the financial integrity of the organization, facilitating communication with stakeholders, and providing essential financial insights.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage all financial operations, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of cash flow, budgets, forecasts, and other financial data necessary for strategic decision-making.
  2. Serve as an advisor to senior leadership, conducting quarterly reviews of program financial reports and addressing any discrepancies.
  3. Prepare annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP and relevant Canadian accounting standards for non-profit entities.
  4. Coordinate with funders regarding tax receipts, reporting requirements, and other financial obligations.
  5. Act as a liaison with the Finance Audit Committee, external auditors, and funding bodies as needed.
  6. Oversee all grant applications and ensure compliance with requirements from various government agencies.
  7. Track all funding received, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with charitable regulations.
  8. Utilize accounting software and payroll systems to maintain the integrity of financial data and ensure timely staff payments.
  9. Lead payroll operations and ensure adherence to internal financial policies.
  10. Manage compliance, risk assessment, and audit processes for the organization.
  11. Assist in preparing financial presentations for the Board of Directors and attend meetings as necessary.
  12. Negotiate financial services with banks in collaboration with the Finance Audit Committee.
  13. Lead the transition of the accounting system to a cloud-based platform.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of the following:

  1. Recognized accounting designation (CPA, CMA, CGA, or CA).
  2. Experience in accounting within a non-profit environment, preferably in a leadership role.
  3. Strong understanding of financial reporting, risk management, and compliance.
  4. Knowledge of GAAP and relevant legislation affecting non-profit accounting.
  5. Experience mentoring teams and advising on financial matters across the organization.
  6. Able to align business objectives with accounting practices.
  7. Proficient in risk management and compliance processes.
  8. Familiarity with accounting software, particularly Sage ERP and Payworks.
  9. Excellent technical writing skills, with experience in drafting policies and proposals.
  10. Ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders, including government and community organizations.

Compensation:
The position offers a competitive salary range of $78K to $85K, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include comprehensive health coverage, three weeks of vacation, a pension plan after six months, and support for professional development and CPA dues.
