About the Role

The Commissioning Oversight Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the quality and effective integration of projects into building operations and maintenance. This position requires strong technical expertise and excellent communication skills to work with technical team members, third-party consultants, and contractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement commissioning oversight processes within project scope, schedule, budget, and company/client procedural requirements.
  • Provide oversight of basis of design, specifications, and drawings, including commissioning specifications, contractor engagement, systems start-up & performance verification testing coordination, operations, and maintenance documentation review.
  • Communicate with Commissioning Oversight Manager, Project Managers, Property Managers, company technical personnel, third-party commissioning agents, and other resources to meet commissioning oversight deliverables for a project.
  • Work as a team to ensure continuous improvement of the commissioning oversight delivery process.
  • Provide ongoing operational support to the property team, including building assessments and capital planning support.
  • Support facility operational teams with re-commissioning and retro-commissioning activities.
  • Effectively communicate with both internal and external clients.
  • Skilled in technical report writing.

Requirements

  • University or college degree in a related field, electrical, mechanical, or building systems engineering preferred.
  • Seven to ten years of experience in building operations or in the construction industry.
  • Five to ten years of experience in commissioning-related activities.
  • Familiar with National and Provincial standards and building codes.
  • Familiar with modern practices and typical building equipment/systems and site services.
  • Strong understanding of the construction sector.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop, analyze, and understand complex processes.
  • Sound judgment skills based on observation of objective evidence.
  • Ability to perform with minimum direct supervision.
  • Bilingualism is an asset.

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

  • BCxA – Certified Commissioning Professional or equivalent certification or able to apply and obtain such certification.
  • Member of Professional Engineers Association is an asset.
  • Engineering Technician or College diploma in Engineering technology or any other equivalent designation is an asset.
  • Valid Driver's License.
