About the Role
The Health Care Aide (HCA) reports to the Director of Care and/or designate and provides person-centered and quality care. The HCA at our communities is an integral member of the team, performing their role in accordance with established policies and procedures, while maintaining the rights of residents and ensuring they are treated with respect and dignity.
Key Responsibilities
- Follows established care plans and provides holistic care to residents.
- Provides personal care for residents from admission or transfer, including bathing, grooming, dressing, and assisting with meals.
- Responds to call bells/alarms and observes and monitors residents' progress, symptoms, and behavioral changes.
- Utilizes proper safety protocols when operating mechanical aids and assists with lifting and/or transferring of residents.
- Provides residents with nutritional assistance and encourages resident participation in food service and clean up.
- Performs laundry of residents' personal clothing and involves residents in organizing and maintaining their home environment.
- Attends and participates in community and education programs and works collaboratively with all team members and supervisors.
Qualifications and Skills
- Graduate from a recognized Care Aide Program and active registration with the British Columbia Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
- Food Safe Level 1 Certificate and Medication Administration Certification are assets.
- Previous experience in a long term care facility is an asset.
- Demonstrates ability to provide compassionate and empathetic care and ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently.
- All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
- Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift, and carry up to 25 lbs and work with cleaners, detergents, and other cleaning equipment.
