Athabasca University's Library and Scholarly Resources is seeking a highly skilled Digital Resources and Metadata Librarian to join our team. As a key member of our library, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the discoverability and accessibility of our digital collections.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead metadata projects to drive innovation in digital collections
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance access to digital resources
  • Develop and implement metadata standards and best practices
  • Manage digital resource management systems and tools
  • Ensure the effective preservation of digital collections
  • Develop and maintain digital asset management systems
  • Provide expert guidance on metadata creation and management
  • Stay current with trends and developments in digital librarianship and metadata standards
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program
  • Experience in metadata creation and management, including familiarity with metadata standards such as MARC, Dublin Core, MODS, etc.
  • Knowledge of digital resource management systems and tools, such as integrated library systems (ILS), digital asset management systems (DAMS), and institutional repositories
  • Experience with digital preservation practices and principles
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to work effectively with colleagues across different departments
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with trends and developments in digital librarianship and metadata standards
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python) or data manipulation tools is an asset
  • Familiarity with linked data principles and practices is an asset
