Position Overview
Vancouver Pile Driving Ltd. is on the lookout for a Lead Estimator to become an integral part of our vibrant and expanding team. As one of Canada's leading marine general contractors, we take pride in our extensive history of executing major marine projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate estimating teams to analyze plans and specifications, prepare bids, select vendors and subcontractors, and assess cost-effectiveness.
- Manage risk and contract-related tasks as necessary.
- Evaluate design alternatives and endorse the most effective solution based on cost, engineering integrity, and material availability.
- Oversee client addenda and guide the estimating team on modifications during the estimation process.
- Compare historical costs and outputs with current cost forecasts.
- Provide insights on the overall construction strategy, including schedule, constructability, and logistics, and their implications on project costs.
- Assess and provide feedback on changes in specifications, plans, construction methods, and materials.
- Ensure all estimates adhere to relevant codes, project specifications, blueprints, and standards.
- Review final estimates for accuracy.
- Manage awarded contracts as necessary, which may include estimating additional work items, change orders, and advising on significant scope alterations.
- Conduct post-project evaluations with estimating, engineering, and production teams to identify successes and gather insights.
- Monitor actual expenditures against estimated costs.
- Maintain a strong commitment to Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 12 years of experience in heavy civil construction, with a proven history of successfully bidding and securing large-scale projects.
- Previous experience in marine construction (e.g., piers, bridges, docks, berths, dredging) is highly desirable.
- A B.Sc in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is required.
- Proficiency in software applications including Excel, HeavyBid, AutoCAD, and MS Project.
