Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Arts Development Coordinator to join our team at the City of Toronto. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and delivering cultural grant and incentive programs, identifying and fostering new partnership opportunities with arts and cultural organizations, and playing a key role in delivering on the objectives of the City's Action Plan for Toronto's Culture Sector.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Coordinate and supervise cultural grant and incentive programs, including establishing and administering program criteria and objectives, grant applications, peer review processes, and funding recommendations.
  2. Plan and form partnerships and develop and deliver special projects related to the Action Plan for Toronto's Culture Sector.
  3. Establish and execute contracts and agreements with grant recipients and partner organizations.
  4. Develop, review, and implement detailed plans and recommend policies and procedures and guidelines regarding program-specific requirements to ensure compliance with Council, corporate, and divisional directives.
  5. Prepare briefing notes and reports for presentation to senior management, Standing Committees, partners, and City Council for strategic decision making.
  6. Evaluate cultural grant, incentive, and partnership programs using results-based performance outcomes.
  7. Communicate with City Divisions, Agencies, artists, cultural organizations, and other partners regarding the City's cultural programs and policies.
  8. Provide strategic advice, manage issues, and conduct internal and external policy consultations on arts and cultural initiatives.
  9. Provide essential leadership and direction in representing the Economic Development and Culture Division on various working groups, teams, and committees.
  10. Lead various project teams and groups to advance project deliverables, including the delivery of grant programs.
  11. Coordinate and monitor the work of external consultants and service providers involved in outreach and community arts development activities.
  12. Mentor, motivate, and train staff, including the scheduling, assigning, and reviewing of work.
  13. Collaborate with project team members, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality, and organizational performance, continuous learning, and encouraging innovation in others.
  14. Provide assistance to the Manager in the annual planning process, including budget and business plan coordination.
  15. Provide input into and administer assigned operating budget, ensuring that expenditures and revenues are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations and monitor results.
Requirements
  1. Post-secondary education in a related discipline such as arts administration or in a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Extensive experience in managing, developing, designing, and delivering cultural programs, including managing program budgets, evaluation, and achieving planned results.
  3. Considerable experience in leading and motivating project teams.
  4. Considerable experience in developing positive internal and external relationships and partnerships with cultural organizations and community groups.
  5. Experience in preparing comprehensive reports and the application of relevant information to support policy analysis and decision making.
  6. Excellent presentation and communication skills, to communicate effectively at a professional level both orally and in writing.
  7. Excellent project management skills, and ability to scope project assignments, manage, and meet critical timelines for processing pertinent work assignments.
  8. Highly developed interpersonal, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
  9. Excellent knowledge of Toronto's arts and cultural sector.
  10. Ability to develop consensus and recommend effective strategic solutions at the city and community level.
  11. Ability to support the Toronto Public Service values to ensure a culture that champions equity, diversity, and respectful workplaces.
  12. Cultural competency in working with Indigenous, Black, and equity-deserving communities.
  13. Ability to ensure work practices conform to relevant policies, procedures, and asset and risk management.
  14. Ability to work flexible hours, which may include overtime, evening, and weekends.
