The Regional Veterinary Medical Director for Western Canada is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) who will oversee the quality of medical care across the region. This role involves collaborating closely with the National Medical Director to establish and implement exemplary medical practices, aligning with Practice Care Centre's mission to provide outstanding veterinary services. This is a full-time opportunity.

Responsibilities:

  • Educate and influence contemporary medical practices and optimal patient care within the designated region, leading practices towards excellence in client and patient services.
  • Foster strong relationships with Regional Operations Managers and veterinary teams to enhance clinic collaboration, teamwork, and adherence to best practices.
  • Conduct site visits to each practice in the region to observe medical procedures and provide coaching to medical teams, both individually and collectively.
  • Engage in clinical duties 1-2 days per week to support clinic operations and client needs.
  • Utilize reports, medical records, and on-site evaluations to assess and enhance the diagnostic, treatment, surgical, and dental competencies of each DVM, ensuring continuous improvement in care quality.
  • Facilitate mentorship plans for new graduate veterinarians, providing guidance and support.
  • Assist with the transition of new clinics in the region, collaborating with the transitions team and Regional Operations Manager.
  • Evaluate and optimize the use of medical equipment within practices.
  • Address veterinary board and client complaints related to medical issues, working with the National Medical Director, Regional Operations Manager, and Practice Manager to resolve them.
  • Collaborate with Practice Managers and Medical Directors to enhance time management and operational efficiency, ensuring effective use of veterinary technicians and technology.
  • Partner with the Talent Acquisition team to attract and evaluate DVM candidates, representing Practice Care Centre at industry and campus events.
  • Work alongside Regional Operations Managers to boost DVM engagement through regional meetings, performance evaluations, and development plans.
  • Organize and lead regular meetings for doctors and teams to cultivate a positive clinic culture.
  • Support Medical Directors and associate veterinarians in managing job satisfaction and overall well-being.
  • Collaborate with the National Medical Director to contribute to the development and execution of new practice protocols and guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Preferred experience in Medical Director or leadership roles.
  • Multi-unit management experience is advantageous.
  • License to practice veterinary medicine in all provinces within the assigned region or eligibility for such licensure.
  • A minimum of 5 years of practical clinical experience in small animal medicine.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with Medical Directors and associate veterinarians.
  • Capability to promote and implement medical programs in a collaborative setting.

Special Working Conditions:

  • Flexibility in scheduling and availability is required.
  • Work environment includes the presence of pets.
  • Travel up to 50% within the supported regions, including overnight stays.
  • The ideal candidate should reside within a reasonable distance from Practice Care Centre clinics in the provinces they will support.
