Position: Fitter

Compensation: $37.55 – Fully Qualified (starting at Learner 1: $31.91/hr; Learner 2: $33.79/hr; Learner 3: $35.67)

We are seeking skilled individuals to become part of our production team as a Fitter.

Every team member plays a vital role in BWXT Canada's achievements and in fulfilling our customers' expectations regarding quality, cost, and delivery. Our workforce is recognized as the best in the industry, and we take pride in the exceptional skills they exhibit daily.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform a variety of fitting operations on company products, including the installation of robotic tube hole cleaning equipment and providing support to robotic technical personnel as necessary. Set up pre-heat equipment.

Specific Duties:

  • Establish jigs and holding devices as needed; position, fit, and assemble materials according to technical drawings, prints, jigs, or layouts; cut and fit templates and gaskets as required. Ensure work accuracy and cleanliness.
  • Interpret Work Orders, Drawings, Shop Instruction Sheets (SIS), and Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS); plan and organize the fitting process; identify and verify the material of workpieces.
  • Select and operate measuring and checking equipment effectively.
  • Utilize layout tools; create layout lines from existing datum points; manufacture templates as necessary.
  • Determine and set oxy-acetylene or natural gas pressure settings and cutting tips; pre-heat workpieces; use various cutting methods including oxy-acetylene, plasma-arc, and carbon-arc.
  • Conduct pressure testing procedures.
  • Perform studding, arc air, non-pressure welding, and component tacking during fitting processes.
  • Execute hydrostatic and pneumatic testing of boilers and pressure vessels.
  • Set up and position pre-heating equipment as required.
  • Safely transport and position materials and equipment to and from the work area, using overhead cranes or forklifts as necessary.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and demonstrate high-quality workmanship.

Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to workplace safety.
  • Dedication to quality and the ability to work effectively as part of a team, going the extra mile to meet customer expectations.
  • Previous experience in fitting, preferably in a heavy manufacturing context.
  • Successful completion of a welding program.
  • Intermediate proficiency in blueprint reading.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work orders.
  • Willingness to work various shifts.
