The Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of Saskatchewan is on the lookout for a forward-thinking and motivated individual for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor specializing in Agricultural Data Science and Economics. The Department emphasizes applied economics, agribusiness, and policy analysis within the agriculture and resource sectors. Our programs are recognized globally, and our faculty members have received numerous accolades for their teaching and research excellence. With a diverse student body from over 15 countries, we maintain a strong international presence.
Current research initiatives cover a broad spectrum, including innovation in biotechnology, rural community development, environmental issues such as climate change, agri-food marketing, and international trade.
We pride ourselves on being one of Canada's leading departments, fostering a student-centered learning atmosphere characterized by small class sizes and meaningful interactions with faculty who are acknowledged leaders in their fields. We offer doctoral and master's programs, along with four undergraduate degrees, including agricultural economics and agribusiness.
The college is recognized for its applied research and scholarship, focusing on four main themes: Plants and Animals; Food, Feed, and Bioproducts; Environment and Ecology; and Business and Applied Economics. The University of Saskatchewan's main campus is situated on Treaty 6 Territory and the Homeland of the Métis. Candidates should possess a completed Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, with demonstrated expertise in data analysis techniques such as optimization, econometrics, and quantitative methods. A thorough understanding of the Western Canadian agricultural landscape, with a focus on advancing Prairie agriculture and analyzing economic data, is essential. Evidence of potential as a high-quality educator and the ability to work collaboratively in a collegial setting is also required. Candidates should be eligible for membership in the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists.
Successful candidates will be expected to engage in the following areas:
- Teaching: Design and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in agricultural data analytics, covering topics such as data science, statistical methods, and decision-making analysis.
- Research: Conduct high-caliber research in agricultural data analytics and publish findings in reputable peer-reviewed journals. Actively seek external funding to support research initiatives and develop a robust research program.
