Job Title: Sessional Instructor, Health Care Assistant

Job Summary:

We are seeking a qualified Sessional Instructor to teach in the Health Care Assistant Certificate program at North Island College. The successful candidate will be responsible for instructing the lab course HCA 120: Personal Care and Assistance via a face-to-face delivery method to a Health Care Assistant cohort at the Port Alberni campus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and prepare learning materials for instructional environments
  • Use a variety of approaches and materials to address different learning needs
  • Teach in assigned subject areas and include all required subject matter or skill activity
  • Direct student learning in a positive, supportive, and caring environment
  • Be available to students regularly during scheduled office hours and classroom hours

Requirements:

  • Practical Nursing credential or BSN degree
  • Two years' experience teaching adults, preferably at the postsecondary level
  • Work experience in gerontics
  • Extensive experience working with Older Adults
  • Provincial Instructor diploma preferred
  • Experience with Indigenous pedagogies and culture
  • Current registration with BCCNM (inclusive of Criminal Record)
  • CPR Level HCP required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using a variety of creative and motivating approaches to stimulate learning
  • Ability to demonstrate effective team behaviours and contribute to shared team goals
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
  • Experience with online learning management systems
