Job Title: Charge Technologist

At Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Charge Technologist to join our Laboratory team. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional medical laboratory technology expertise and leadership.

Responsibilities:
  • Participate in technical, professional, and quality in-services and education to stay up-to-date with the latest laboratory procedures and technologies.
  • Contribute to staff and patient experience and feedback initiatives, professional development, teaching/educational activities, safety and quality improvement programs to ensure excellence in the provision of services.
  • Read, confirm, and understand laboratory policies and procedures through document control software.
  • Forward suggestions for policy and procedure improvement or corrections required to, and work with, the appropriate stakeholder(s).
  • Perform laboratory procedures for specific discipline(s) and functions and ensure the completion of assigned workload.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain cleanliness of laboratory equipment and work area.
  • Prepare written and electronic reports required to document procedures and test results.
  • Participate in teaching, educational, safety, and quality improvement programs.
  • Observe and understand hospital policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to hospital and departmental mission and vision statements while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Perform cross-functional duties, as assigned or requested.
Requirements:
  • General certification in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized post-secondary institute.
  • Certification through the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
  • Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) in areas of responsibility required.
  • Previous leadership in a Charge role or experience leading a team in a project or initiative preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years recent laboratory experience in Transfusion preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop skill and knowledge in required areas of the laboratory essential.
