The Role:

As an Optical Solutions Applications Engineer, you will engage directly with customers, delivering exceptional technical support within Ciena's optical module and components sector. This position involves regular interaction with top-tier optical module manufacturers and major global content providers, allowing you to understand their applications and forge enduring relationships.

Your Contributions:

The Optical Solutions division at Ciena presents an exciting opportunity to broaden our market reach by making our cutting-edge coherent optical module technology accessible to a diverse array of industry players, enhancing our presence in new regions and market segments.

In your role as an Applications Engineer, you will play a pivotal part in the team, collaborating closely with Product Line Managers (PLM) and Research & Development teams to integrate our technology into customer products. This position not only presents thrilling technical challenges but also offers insights into the business dimensions of our operations. Representing Ciena, you will uphold the highest standards of professionalism and expertise.

Your responsibilities will include:

Collaborating with PLM to provide technical leadership and guidance, focusing on securing design wins. You will articulate our technology solutions (modules and/or components) to customers and offer technical expertise for their integration into customer products. Developing reference designs to facilitate swift integration of our technology by customers. Conducting regular meetings with customer engineers to address new issues or inquiries, ensuring timely follow-up and resolution. Providing on-site customer support as needed to swiftly address integration challenges. Creating and presenting product demonstrations or evaluation boards at industry trade shows or customer laboratories. Performing lab tests as necessary to replicate customer issues. Collaborating with Ciena R&D to formulate enhancements for our modules and components based on customer needs and requirements.

Essential Qualifications:

10+ years of experience in optical module development, covering areas such as hardware, software, firmware, DSP, or serdes, with direct experience in system integration. Strong understanding of the components involved in optical module design (lasers, DSPs, TIAs, optical receivers, etc.). Experience with high-speed DSP-based electrical serdes architecture, design, and/or applications. Proficient knowledge of link equalization techniques, including Tx and Rx equalizers. Solid understanding of high-speed digital circuits and signal integrity.

Preferred Qualifications:

Direct customer-facing experience, demonstrating a strong customer-oriented attitude and behavior. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, evidenced through successful product launches. Strong communication and teamwork abilities. Experience in authoring datasheets and/or application notes.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary range for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
