Job Title: Part-time Professor

Durham College is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our team as a part-time professor. The successful candidate will teach Communications Courses in-person at the Oshawa or Whitby campus.

About the Role

The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver Communication Foundations courses, which help students develop and practice the foundational skills and competencies necessary to communicate in a variety of contexts in their chosen field of study. Topics may include communication theories, techniques, models for interpersonal relationships, group dynamics, public speaking, and intercultural environments.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Create a positive learning environment that accommodates students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles;
  2. Utilize principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process;
  3. Effectively use educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, and deliver hybrid and online courses;
  4. Develop curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
  5. Ensure that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;
  6. Work independently and demonstrate initiative; and
  7. Work effectively with students, the program team, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
  1. A relevant Master's degree (relevant PhD is an asset). A professional designation is an asset;
  2. A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience;
  3. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of UDL and current assessment methodologies. TESOL Certification and experience working with EAL learners is an asset;
  4. Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset;
  5. Demonstrated commitment to putting the student experience first;
  6. Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades;
  7. Proven track record of life-long learning;
  8. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students, faculty, support staff, administrators, and community stakeholders;
  9. Understanding of the Ontario college system.
