Reporting directly to the Hotel Controller, the Hospitality Accountant collaborates closely with both the Accounting team and Management at the Delta Hotel by Marriott Dartmouth and Muir Hotel in Downtown Halifax. This position encompasses all facets of daily financial accounting for our hospitality establishments.

As a Hospitality Accountant, your responsibilities will include:

  1. Timely preparation of accurate journal entries essential for daily accounting and the monthly financial closing process.
  2. Conducting account reconciliations to ensure precise cost allocations.
  3. Supporting inventory management and tracking of supplies.
  4. Assisting in the accounts receivable process, which includes group master billing, payment processing, collections, reporting, and reconciling daily hotel revenues and receivables.
  5. Collaborating with sales, room reservations, and front desk teams to resolve billing and payment discrepancies promptly while maintaining high customer service standards.
  6. Contributing to accounts payable processing.
  7. Regularly visiting properties to perform cash balancing, reconciliations, and float counts.
  8. Assisting in the preparation and review of financial statements.
  9. Supporting activities related to year-end audits and the annual budgeting process.
Qualifications:
  1. Exceptional communication skills and a proactive approach to collaboration with department leaders in the Hospitality division.
  2. Proficiency in Excel.
  3. Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  4. Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  5. Familiarity with Sage Intacct or Opera PMS Software is a plus.
  6. A university degree or technical diploma focused on finance or accounting.
  7. A minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience, preferably within the hospitality sector.
