This position is associated with our Good Shepherd at Emmanuel House Hospice.
Your Impact
Emmanuel House Hospice is a ten-bed palliative care facility situated in Hamilton, providing a home-like atmosphere for individuals approaching the end of their lives. Care is delivered through a collaborative team approach, involving various interdisciplinary professionals such as personal support workers, nurses, physicians, and spiritual and psychosocial support staff. We prioritize a person-centered and holistic model of care, emphasizing the importance of maintaining dignity during the final stages of life.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program and registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required.
- BCLS certification is mandatory or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Experience in supporting individuals and families during end-of-life care or with life-limiting illnesses is essential.
- Strong clinical assessment skills and proficiency in evidence-based practices related to pain and symptom management and end-of-life care are required.
- Prior experience in palliative care settings, including hospitals or hospices, with an understanding of the death and dying process is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Completion or active pursuit of Enhanced Fundamentals of Palliative Care is considered an asset.
- Resourceful problem-solver with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with strong time management abilities and attention to detail.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and education.
- Excellent attendance record is required.
- Dedication to anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices, aligned with the mission and values of Good Shepherd.
- Knowledge of harm reduction approaches to care is beneficial.
- Fluency in a language other than English is an asset.
