Team Leader - Post-Incubation - Food Microbiology Lab

Bureau Veritas Laboratories is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Team Leader to join our team in the Food Microbiology Lab. As a Team Leader, you will be responsible for leading a team of experts in the scientific field to advance your technical knowledge and advance your career.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Monitor workload summary and prioritize shift activities to meet test deadlines.
  • Prioritize jobs according to rush and client specific deadlines.
  • Ensure staff are following the SAIL process in sample handling as needed.
  • Proactive approach to ensure supplies requirements are available at all times.
  • Liaise and communicate with customer service on "problem" jobs.
  • Enforce and apply Good Housekeeping and Health and Safety Rules.
  • Ensure instruments are fully functional and report any equipment/staff issues to Manager immediately.
  • Ensure staff follow all SOPs and is responsible for implementing audit recommendations. Provide technical expertise to staff on a day-to-day basis.
  • Provide backup support to continue production of analytical service.
  • Review analytical data produced by instrumentation.
  • Identify problems based on knowledge of facts and root causes and resolve or contribute to solution through corrective action and prevention.
  • Enforce quality protocols, monitor for failure to meet tolerances and institute remedial action immediately.
  • Must be familiar with the operational activities of other areas, such as Sample Reception/Inspection, Pre-processing.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Technical diploma or equivalent experience.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in specific environment.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with laboratory Occupational Health and Safety practices to handle hazardous materials by taking the necessary precautions.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of laboratory processes and automation.
  • Thorough understanding of Bureau Veritas's Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Act as Department Lead when Manager or Supervisor are absent.
  • Ability to mentor junior staff to effect process changes.
  • Assesses problems and recommends solutions.
  • Inspires, motivates and participates in building a strong team environment.
  • Uses good judgment, trains and assists in resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Flexible to perform varying duties to accommodate changing priorities.
  • Accurately follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and instructions.
  • Detail oriented with accurate record keeping skills.
  • Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adapts to a changing environment.
  • Works both independently and as part of a team.
  • Learns quickly.
