The Safety-Critical Control Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role in the conception, development, and execution of sophisticated control systems where public safety is paramount.

This position necessitates a comprehensive knowledge of safety protocols, redundancy mechanisms, and stringent testing methodologies.

The ideal candidate will spearhead the creation of control system frameworks, guarantee adherence to global safety standards, and supervise the deployment of systems with an emphasis on dependability and fail-safe operations.

Applicants must hold a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license, be in the process of obtaining one, or possess the requisite experience to qualify for licensure.

This position provides a substantial opportunity for an experienced Controls Engineer to direct the innovation of state-of-the-art safety-critical control systems.

The successful applicant will be instrumental in assuring the safety and dependability of control systems utilized in environments that interact with the public, thereby enhancing the company's standing as an industry leader.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Control System Architecture: Design and develop control system frameworks that emphasize modularity, safety, and redundancy.
  • Controls Programming: Program and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems, focusing on safety-critical applications.
  • Safety and Risk Management: Perform thorough risk assessments and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to pinpoint potential hazards and establish robust safety protocols.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all control systems meet relevant safety standards and regulations.
  • Safety System Validation: Lead the validation of safety-critical systems through comprehensive Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and on-site commissioning.
  • Network Communication & Security: Design and secure resilient communication networks that enable reliable data exchange among control system components, while troubleshooting and optimizing network configurations to safeguard against cybersecurity threats.
  • Documentation & Standards Compliance: Create detailed documentation for control system development, including Theory of Operations (TOO), Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), Technical Specifications, and user manuals, ensuring precision and adherence to quality standards.
  • Training & Knowledge Transfer: Provide advanced training to operators, maintenance personnel, and other stakeholders on the operation and upkeep of safety-critical control systems, ensuring a thorough understanding of safety protocols and system functionalities.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead initiatives aimed at enhancing the safety, reliability, and efficiency of control systems, thoroughly reviewing project-related documents to ensure alignment with control system specifications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in control systems engineering, particularly in public-facing safety-critical environments such as amusement parks, transportation, or industrial automation.
  • Proven experience in developing redundant safety systems and producing engineering documentation.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (Rockwell and Siemens platforms), HMI design, and network communication protocols.
  • Strong understanding of safety standards, Functional Safety (TÜV), and relevant certifications.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 20-30% of the time for commissioning, inspections, and training.
