We are currently seeking a full-time Psychologist to contribute to our Mental Health & Addiction Program, specifically within the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services.

Work Schedule: Primarily DAYS, with some EVENINGS.

Role of Psychologists at Grand River Hospital

Our Mental Health & Addictions Program aims to provide outstanding patient experiences, excellent access to services, and an engaged workforce.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Assess and diagnose psychological disorders, including mental health issues, cognitive functioning, and personality disorders.
  • Analyze complex data from various sources.
  • Plan, administer, and interpret psychological assessments tailored to the referral needs.
  • Draft clinical assessment summaries and reports based on psychometric findings and diagnostic conclusions.
  • Engage in patient and family education initiatives to enhance coping strategies and reduce distress.
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of candidates for student practicums; possess skills in clinical teaching and education.
  • Deliver a range of therapeutic interventions (individual, family, and group) aimed at improving physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and interpersonal functioning.
  • Provide clinical supervision and training for student practica and/or non-regulated psychology staff, ensuring clinical accountability in service delivery.
  • Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team alongside other health care providers, community services, and educational institutions.
  • Engage in clinical research design and provide guidance on research and evaluation methodologies.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Qualifications for Psychologists at Grand River Hospital:
  • Completion of graduate education, minimum of a Master's degree in Psychology (M.A., M.Sc., M.Ps., M.Ed.), with four years of relevant experience, and registration in good standing with the College of Psychologists of Ontario; OR a Doctoral degree in Psychology (Ph.D., Psy.D., Ed.D., D.Psy.) with a one-year internship.
  • At least 2 years of clinical experience in psychological assessment and diagnosis of children and youth (up to age 21) in an acute care hospital setting.
  • Proficiency in administering, scoring, and interpreting a variety of psychological testing instruments.
  • Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills for providing clinical supervision and training.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge and expertise in clinical research design and statistical data analysis.
  • Experience with autism-specific assessments such as the ADOS-2 and ADIR; neuropsychological testing experience is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Consistent attendance record.
