About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Interim Financial Operations Director to join our team at Embark. As a key member of our finance leadership team, you will be responsible for the management of various financial functions, including accounting, taxation, treasury, and commission administration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis: Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheet and income statement analysis, for presentation to the Executive team and the Board of Directors.
  • Regulatory Filings: Prepare and file regulatory and external filings within regulatory timelines, including OSC, SEDAR, and StatCan.
  • Audit and Compliance: Lead the external audit process, manage deliverables, and support the internal audit process by contributing to risk area selection and coordinating with the business areas and audit team.
  • Accounting Standard Implementation: Identify new accounting requirements and develop approaches for successful implementation, including IFRS and revenue recognition.
  • Taxation and Treasury: Oversee the preparation and filing of corporate tax returns and GST/HST returns, and manage treasury and cash management operations, including bank account maintenance and reconciliation.
  • Commission Administration and Accounts Payable: Oversee commission administration and accounts payable, ensuring accurate and timely payments to sales representatives and vendors.
  • Process Management and Improvements: Manage finance processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Leadership and Team Management: Lead accounting, treasury, and commission teams, including performance reviews, coaching, mentoring, and supporting individual development.
Requirements
  • Post-Secondary Degree: Accounting, finance, or business administration degree required.
  • Accounting Designation: CPA designation desired.
  • Experience: At least 8 years of progressive experience, starting with public accounting and leading to controllership experience.
  • Financial Services Experience: Experience in financial services, preferably in fintech, is an asset.
  • Leadership and Team Management: Proven ability to lead high-performing teams, manage change, and drive process improvements.
  • Analytical and Communication Skills: Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to summarize and present complex financial data.
