Job Overview

In alignment with the Mission, Vision, and Values of Providence Health Care, this role emphasizes a patient-centered approach to care, fostering a safe and respectful environment for all stakeholders including patients, families, and staff.

Reporting to the Professional Practice Leader of Clinical Nutrition, the Dietitian II, Renal is responsible for leveraging advanced expertise to create, implement, assess, and document tailored nutritional care plans for patients and residents.

This position also involves contributing to the formulation of clinical nutrition practice standards and serving as a resource across various Providence Health Care sites, adhering to professional guidelines and program goals.

Engaging in practice-based research initiatives in collaboration with the healthcare team is also a key component of this role.


Qualifications and Skills

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Food and Nutrition or Dietetics from an accredited institution, along with a dietetic internship recognized by Dietitians of Canada. A minimum of two years of recent experience in a medical or acute care environment, specifically with renal patients, is required. Current registration with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia is essential.

  • Proficient in advanced clinical skills related to renal nutrition and the ability to apply these skills effectively.
  • Strong leadership and direction capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Competence in initiating and executing research projects.
  • Experience in planning and guiding students in their learning processes.
  • Capability to develop and deliver educational sessions for colleagues and other health professionals.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize workload and address issues independently.
  • Knowledge of healthcare legislation and policies.
  • Physical capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
  • Proficient in operating relevant equipment.

Key Responsibilities

This role involves evaluating the nutritional status and risks of patients, including complex cases, and developing comprehensive nutritional care plans. Responsibilities include:

  • Instructing and advising patients and their families on dietary modifications and lifestyle adjustments.
  • Referring and coordinating with community nutritional resources to address patient care needs.
  • Completing necessary documentation and reporting workload statistics.
  • Serving as a resource for other dietitians and healthcare professionals in the renal field.
  • Identifying continuing education needs and developing relevant training programs.
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives by planning and evaluating nutrition interventions.
  • Supporting clinical research by identifying research areas and participating in data collection and analysis.
  • Addressing educational needs in renal nutrition by preparing and presenting programs and materials.
  • Assisting in the education and supervision of dietetic interns and students.
  • Contributing to interdisciplinary patient care by participating in team meetings and discussions.
