Job Description

We are seeking a talented and experienced Lead Data Engineer to join our team at the Royal Bank of Canada. As a key member of our Technology and Operations division, you will play a crucial role in designing and developing a cutting-edge data platform that supports our climate goals.

What is the Opportunity?

As a Lead Data Engineer, you will be responsible for architecting and designing a robust data platform that can handle various data types and sources across the organization. You will work closely with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions that meet their needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Architect and Design Data Platform: Lead the conceptualization and design of a robust data platform capable of supporting various data types and sources across the organization.
  2. Develop Scalable Solutions: Create scalable solutions for data ingestion, processing, storage, and retrieval, ensuring high performance and reliability.
  3. Implement Data Governance Framework: Collaborate with stakeholders to establish and enforce data governance policies, ensuring data quality, privacy, and security standards are upheld.
  4. Integrate Third-Party Tools: Evaluate and integrate third-party tools and technologies to enhance the functionality and efficiency of the data platform.
  5. Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions that meet their needs.
  6. Drive Innovation: Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends, and propose innovative solutions to enhance the data platform's capabilities.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Lead Engineer or similar role, with a focus on designing and implementing highly scalable and self-serve capable data-intensive applications.
  • Recent expertise in data modeling, ETL processes, and data management concepts. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP and strong understanding of data governance principles and practices.
  • Experience in banking, particularly in Risk & Finance domains, is a strong asset.
