Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Manager of Perioperative Services, the staff nurse will engage in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care and nursing activities within a framework of quality management, aligning with the mission of Northern Health Authority.

The responsibilities of this role are shaped by the needs of the healthcare facility, a specific patient/family demographic, organizational expectations, and the objectives for professional nursing practice.


Details of the AORN Perioperative Nursing Program
Northern Health's Regional Operating Room Education (RORE)

The AORN Periop-101 course is a comprehensive blended learning program designed to provide standardized education on the essential skills of perioperative nursing.

This program consists of a 7-week course that combines online learning with practical experience alongside a preceptor to enhance skill consolidation.

Participants will be equipped to deliver safe and competent perioperative nursing care at an entry-level standard.



  • There are 12 training positions available for the upcoming year.
  • Northern Health offers placement assistance and financial support for tuition, textbooks, and travel expenses related to clinical placements.
  • Participants should anticipate a commitment of 6 to 12 months for this educational program, which includes both online and in-person components.
  • Additional study time outside of scheduled hours may be necessary to successfully complete the program.
  • Flexibility in scheduling for practicums is essential.
  • Applicants must complete the educational program before assuming responsibilities in the department.
  • Upon successful completion, Northern Health requires an eighteen (18) month return of service in a regular nursing position relevant to the training.
  • Qualified candidates will be prioritized for specialty roles; if no qualified candidates are available, training opportunities will be extended to unqualified applicants.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, Day shifts - 08:00 to 16:00
